"Well, you know, I was a human being before I became a businessman."
- George Soros, Billionaire & Philanthropist

Martha Stewart. "Kenny Boy" Lay. The Corporation. With the barrage of negative press over the last year its not surprising that the public has become suspicious of corporate entities. A poll in USA Today showed that more than seven in 10 Americans say they distrust CEOs of large corporations, and the percentage of Americans who see Big Business as an "actual threat to the nation's future has nearly doubled, to 38%."

With this much media attention surrounding the issue of corporate ethics, it is perhaps not surprising that a noticeable shift is occurring. Companies desperate to move away from the greedy & corrupt images relayed in the media are trying to find ways to prove that their businesses do have social value & community worth.

The good news is that it's not all gloss and "greenwashing". Momentum is gaining and a big push is being felt in the area of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). From environmental initiatives, to employee welfare and charity work, companies are increasing becoming 'socially conscious' and embracing committed practices that promote an ethical brand value to distinguish them in the eyes of the public.

Implicit in these structural changes, is the realization that brands are built and based on trust. Successful companies like Patagonia, Aveda and Lululemon are all built on the premise that they offer not only an excellent product, but that we can trust that their products benefit the communities in which they are made, and in which they are sold.

It could be said that a new currency is emerging in the economic arena, one that highlights the ~value~ of values. Here at Cowie & Fox Creative, we are fortunate to work with top notch ethical clients. Our goal is to create a chain link of good businesses. We source our materials from sustainable suppliers and manufacturers and invite all companies interested in developing or furthering CSR marketing initiatives to contact us at: business@cowieandfox.com.
